Publisher Deep Silver has denied that a sequel to surprise zombie hit Dead Island is currently in production, but there remains chatter that original developer Techland is being replaced.

IGN Germany heard from a reliable source that Yager, the Berlin team behind SpecOps: The Line, was being lined-up for Dead Island 2.

GamesIndustry International later contacted Deep Silver and confirmed that talks were underway regarding the sequel, with other sources suggesting other studios were part of these discussions.

Deep Silver development director Guido Eickmeyer then contacted IGN to deny the original report, but added that there is a “legitimate chance” that Yager may be used again, “and I would not even exclude the possibility that this could be something within the Dead Island franchise.”

He added: “We have neither something in place or in discussion between the parties that would explain such a news, nor do we have Dead Island 2 in concept or production with external partners.”

Dead Island was a mixed bag, but its debut trailer sure was good.
