Dead Island: Riptide will be an all new game, not a reworked version of the first game, publisher Deep Silver has confirmed.

The game’s listing at retailers with a lower than expected price of $49.99 had led to speculation that Riptide was a reworked version of the original game, similar to Capcom’s Dead Rising 2: Off The Record.

However, this isn’t the case.

“It is a new game. Not a remake,” Tweeted Deep Silver’s Aubrey Norris.

“That’s the real price!” she added. “It’s the end of a console cycle- we think this price makes a lot more sense given that :)”

A full announcement is set for later this summer.

Given Norris is talking about the end of a console cycle we can assume Dead Island: Riptide will hit stores in 2013, presumably the same year new systems from Sony and Microsoft hit stores.
