Deep Silver has teased the first details about its upcoming ‘ZOMBA’ Dead Island: Epidemic, explaining that it “will be different in many ways” to popular MOBAs Dota 2 and League of Legends.

“You are absolutely right and this is the reason why I would never try to develop another Dota or LoL,” said creative director Guido Eickmeyer when asked whether he was worried the MOBA market could already be over-saturated during a Reddit AMA.

“[Dead Island:] Epidemic will be different in many ways, focusing on a crafting system with a lot [sic] of depth and gamers who like to have a hardcore experience that does not require half of your life to master it and some environment that appreciated fun over bullying.”

Dead Island: Epidemic was announced earlier this week, with more details to be revealed at Gamescom later this month.

The game is described as a free-to-play ‘Zombie Online Multiplayer Battle Arena’ title that sees three teams of players stuck in a “desperate fight for survival”.

Eickmeyer also commented on this year’s controversy over Dead Island Riptide’s Zombie Bait Edition, describing the anger as being “blown out of the proportion”.

Dead Island: Epidemic releases on PC next year.
