Dead Island developer Techland has announced Hellraid, which promises to blend story-driven hack & slash action, shooters and online multiplayer.

We’re promised two games in one: a single-player, story-driven campaign of hack and slash action; plus co-operative multiplayer that sees four players going up against the denizens of hell – and each other – in a battle for points, rewards and fame.

On your own: Fight, develop skills, collect loot and craft weapons while exploring a world devastated by demons. Treacherous swamps, squalid prisons and ancient catacombs will be among the settings of your adventure. Hellraid offers what’s best in the hack & slash genre but viewed from the immersive First-Person Perspective.

In Co-op: Play in cooperation in a team of four heroes with different skills and weapon capabilities. Slaughter enemies with swords and axes as a Warrior. Heal and protect your friends with the Paladin’s defensive magic. Burn, freeze and electrocute demons with the Mage’s staff and kill with precision of the Rogue’s crossbow.

The game will boast a combat system featuring melee, range and magical weapons, whilst a “Game Master” system has been designed to ensure each game offers a different experience through the placement of loot and enemies.

Weapon crafting, armour customisation and character development bring an RPG element to proceedings.

Hellraid will be released later this year for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
