NetEase Games’ Marvel Rivals has been a massive success, bringing in 40 million players in just a few months. With Marvel’s superheroes taking centre stage again, DC Studios wants to jump in on the action.

DC wants its own Marvel Rivals

Reported by ComicBook, DC Studios CEO James Gunn was asked at a recent panel about the success of Marvel Rivals. At the panel, Gunn explained that DC Studios is “totally” open to having its own take on the hero shooter genre.

When asked about the possibility of its own hero shooter, Gunn said: “[It’s] totally possible, I’d be open to it.”

Of course, this means that nothing is in the works at the time of writing. After all, it took around four years for Marvel Rivals to go from its earliest pitches to a finished project with its current slate of heroes.

Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see DC’s take on the hero shooter format. With characters like The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman and more, there’s a tonne of possibilities for awesome movesets and unique team-ups within the DC universe.

As for maps, we could see some truly amazing locales such as Danny the Street, the sentient, teleporting street filled with funk. For obscure characters, we could even see the Doom Patrol — give us Robotman and Crazy Jane.

While DC ponders its own take on Marvel Rivals, NetEase is currently working on years of support for its successful hero shooter. With a new hero planned to come to the game every month and half, alongside new maps and events, there’s a lot more to come for Rivals.
