Despite not talking much about the story in Days Gone, Sony’s upcoming zombies-but-not-zombies survival game, Bend Studio is happy to reveal some things, including that, despite the grimness of Deacon St. John’s life, one of the big themes is hope.

‘Story is a really big part of the game,’ said a Bend Studio developer, speaking at a gameplay preview of Days Gone today. ‘Deacon is going through a lot of hardship, he’s lost a lot. He’s a very heartbroken and angry person. The story is about exploring him and, as he moves through the world, how he changes.’

‘One of our big themes is hope. Even though you live in the s**t, how do you get out of that?’

Said preview of Days Gone showed off some of the dynamic systems, like the weather and hazard encounters, that change the environment and your approach to missions. We’ll bring you a full write up soon.
