Developer Daybreak Games has announced that it will shut down the servers for Planetside Arena on January 10, 2020 at 17:00 (PST).
The game went into Steam Early Access in September this year on PC, and a console launch was planned for the second quarter of 2020.
In a post on the game’s Steam Community page (via VG24/7), Executive Producer Andy Sites said, “It has become clear after several months in Early Access that our population levels make it impossible to sustain the gameplay experience we envisioned.”
For players who have made purchases for the game during its period in Early Access, Sites stated that, “We are actively working with Steam to ensure that all players who made purchases during Early Access will automatically receive a full refund to their Steam Wallet after servers shut down in January.”
Sites concluded his post with a message of hope for the fans, saying, “As painful as it is to close this chapter so quickly, we remain deeply committed to this franchise, and look forward to continuing this journey through the PlanetSide Universe with all of you.”
It isn’t clear at the moment what Daybreak Games has planned for the franchise.
