H1Z1's original zombie survival romp Just Survive is shutting its doors later this year, developer Daybreak Games has announced.

Writing in a post on its official website, the Just Survive development team at Daybreak Games confirmed that the title will shut up shop on October 24 at 7.00pm GMT, stating the team is 'no longer in a position to fulfill its greatness.'

'After careful consideration, we’ve made the difficult decision to sunset Just Survive on Wednesday, October 24 at 11am PT (7pm UK time). The excitement of the game’s promise was palpable and its loyal community is still full of ideas for its future. Unfortunately, we are no longer in a position to fulfill its greatness and the current population of the game makes it untenable to maintain.'

'Thank you for taking the time to play the game, to help test it when we opened the Test servers to the public, and for all of the suggestions and feedback throughout Early Access. We truly appreciate everyone’s commitment and your contributions throughout the development process. Our promise is to do better and learn from every experience along the way.'

Just Survive was the original incarnation of H1Z1 and entered into Early Access back in January 2015, where it went on to flog over one million copies in just two months. It was then renamed H1Z1: Just Survive and later dropped the H1Z1 branding completely last August.

It should be noted that Just Survive's closure will not impact the battle royale version of H1Z1, which is currently doing the rounds on PlayStation 4 as a free-to-play title.
