The Top Secret project form Dave Perry and Acclaim, which invites people the world over to join the development team, is now officially underway, with news that the genre for the mysterious game is racing.

The development team is already more than 22,000 people and a series of project details have been revealed. First off, the game will be a massively multiplayer online racing game, which is intended to ship by Games Developers Conference 2008 – that’s around one year off.

The game will feature both individual and team racing, with guilds a possibility if there is a good reason to have them. There’s also talk of new hooks which will make the game feel fresh, something which will be copied by other racing games in years to come.

Perry has also suggested the idea of giving each racer a secret objective before each race begins. Each racer will then have to complete this objective rather than simply taking part in a race to the finish. A massive bonus will be awarded for achieving the objective.

The game will also feature a host of items, with these falling into two categories: those that affect the game which are free and those which are just cool to have but players will have to pay for them.

It’s also been decided that each race will accommodate up to eight racers, although the modes of transport and tracks are still to be decided upon – one thing for sure is that the game will not feature seamless tracks. There is also a special deal in place which could give the game’s development community access to around 3,000 music tracks.
