They only went and did it. Dave Bautista, professional wrestler and Disney actor, is headed to Gears 5 as a playable character.

Bautista has been hankering after a role as Marcus Fenix in the Gears of War film adaptation, and he said that he’s ‘tried everything’ to get Hollywood to give him the green light. He might not appear on the silver screen, but Bautista was very excited to reveal he’s jumped in feet first to the Gears universe on Twitter yesterday.

Over 700 lines of dialogue were recorded for his character, and his performance was overseen by Fergusson. ‘Adding Bautista to Gears 5, we started with the fantasy of “Bautista as Marcus”, putting Batista into Marcus’ armor, and starting with Marcus’ script,’ Fergusson revealed a little of the behind-the-scenes work in an interview with Xbox Wire. ‘Then we added elements of “The Animal” Bautista into his voice performance and onto his look by adding his signature Hollywood shades to his character.  Bautista was great in the booth and I can’t wait for Gears and Bautista fans alike to stomp some Swarm as The Animal.’

Gears 5 launches on Xbox One and PC on September 6 for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members, and then on September 10 for Xbox Game Pass members.
