There will be no more games in the Darksiders series, the game’s lead designer has seemingly confirmed, after the IP and its developer Vigil Games failed to be sold during THQ’s assets sale last week.

Responding to a tweet from Rovio’s creative director Patrick Liu, who tweeted “No more Darksiders! 🙁 Whyyyyy Crytek…”, Darksiders’ lead designer Haydn Dalton said:

“Tis true Pat…sometimes good things come to an end. That’s why you’ve gotta enjoy them while you can.”

Dalton played a key role in the development of both Darksiders 1 & 2, serving as lead designer on Vigil’s action-adventure.

Back in July, Dalton suggested to VideoGamer.com that the future of the series relied on Darksiders 2’s success. However, the game failed to meet THQ’s expectations, selling just 247,000 units during its opening month in the US.

Some members of Darksiders’ development team were picked up by Crytek in the days following THQ’s assets auction, prompting speculation that a third Darksiders title could be developed at Crytek’s new Austin studio.

However, Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli later stated that Darksiders 3 “doesn’t fit with [the company’s] strategy” and that he “didn’t want to continue with Darksiders III”.

Vigil had been rumoured to be developing a first-person shooter prior to THQ’s collapse.
