Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, has been named president of From Software following the developer’s acquisition by Japanese publisher Kadokawa Shoten.

Miyazaki joined From Software in 2004 and rose to international attention through the popularity of the hard-as-nails dungeon crawlers. However, he only acted as a supervisor on Dark Souls 2, which was instead headed by Tomohiro Shibuya and Yui Tanimura.

Demon’s Souls producer Masanori Takeuchi has also been promoted to a senior managing director role.

The firm’s sale to Kadokawa Shoten is expected to be completed today.
