Cyberpunk 2077 will be ‘100% first person’, with players only able to see their protagonist from a third person perspective in a select few circumstances.
The Witcher 3 adhered to a third person perspective in gameplay and cutscenes, so it was surprising to see CD Projekt Red take a different approach for its next RPG outing. A fan messaged the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account to clarify whether cutscenes would be from a third person view like The Witcher. ‘In Cyberpunk 2077, immersion is very important for us, so yes, cutscenes are fpp,’ the representative replied. And, the sex scenes will be from a first person perspective. As someone who gets uncomfortable listening too closely to ‘Come on Eileen’ by Dexy’s Midnight Runners, a first person sex scene in a video game sounds like a nightmare.
In previous gameplay demos, Cyberpunk 2077 used a third person perspective for various sequences, but those have always been shown with a disclaimer that it’s all subject to change during development. Marcin Momot, CD Projekt Red’s global community lead, took to Twitter to reveal just what the game has in store for our eyeballs. ‘100% first person’ was always the plan, and Marcin said that the choice is ‘something that will benefit it greatly from gameplay and story-telling perspectives.’
2/2 That said, players will still be able to see their characters in the inventory screen, during driving sequences, in mirrors and, very occasionally, in some of the cut-scenes.

But, the highly customisable and cybernetic V won’t be left in the dark. Marcin added that players will be able to see their character in the inventory menu, while driving around Night City, in a few specific cutscenes, and of course, in mirrors. The ‘V’ doesn’t stand for ‘vampire’ after all. What does ‘V’ stand for, actually? Screw sex scenes, this is a need to know. ‘Velcro’? ‘Vapid’? ‘Vegan’?
Cyberpunk 2077 will launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on April 2020, and on Google Stadia at a later date.
