Sony’s been steadily adding new functionality to its PS3 through regular firmware updates, but now, some three years after the console launched, there’s still no cross-game voice chat.
However, according to a Naughty Dog developer going by the tag ReklissAbandon, this functionality will be included in the next PS3 firmware update.
“… the next PS3 firmware update is going to allow cross game chat,” explained the dev in response to a fan question on the PlayStation forums.
The post was quickly removed and Sony has refused to comment. For the time being, PS3 gamers wishing to chat while playing different games will have to make use of text chat, which has supported cross-game conversations since firmware v2.70.
