UK developer Frontier will “look at” Microsoft and Sony’s upcoming motion sensing technologies for opportunities to bring WiiWare platforming puzzler LostWinds to the Xbox 360 and PS3.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com this week at a Nintendo press event in London, Frontier chief and Elite co-creator David Braben said that “as control methods are changing, opportunities may also change”.

LostWinds, released as a WiiWare launch title last year, is a side-scrolling platformer that uses the Wii’s motion sensing control scheme to allow players to draw gusts of winds on screen to help solve puzzles and aid the movement of central character Toku. A sequel, LostWinds: Winter of Melodias, due out this October, builds on that mechanic.

When asked if LostWinds’ core motion sensing mechanic meant it was impossible for Frontier to publish the game on XBLA or PSN, Braben replied: “What we try and do is do the best game for each platform as appropriate.

“It’s very interesting, as control methods are changing, opportunities may also change.”

Asked if he was referring to Natal and Sony’s motion sensing wand, Braben said: “Well who knows? All of these things are enabling new gameplay mechanics, some of which could be quite close to something like LostWinds.

“We’re certainly doing more in the world of LostWinds anyway. The very fact that we’re doing this sequel shows it’s been successful. But also, what those opportunities are, we’ll look at.”
