Trademarks sort of spoiled the surprise, but Control 2, officially titled Control Resonant, has been revealed at The Game Awards. It is a sequel to Remedy Entertainment’s Control from back in 2019, and it is set to release in 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Surprisingly, it stars a new protagonist, Dylan, who is the brother of the first game’s main character, Jesse Faden.

Remedy Entertainment is the developer of Control, and they are also known for making the first two Max Payne games as well as the Alan Wake series. Similar to Alan Wake, Control is a mind-bending story involving the supernatural, and Control Resonant promises to be even weirder.

Per co-creative director Mikael Kasurinen, speaking through the PlayStation Blog, Control Resonant takes place in a warped Manhattan where “cosmic forces twist reality, bend gravity, and reshape the skyline into something unrecognizable”. Dylan is looking for his sister, Jesse, and it’s a third-person, open-ended action-RPG featuring “branching missions, encounters, and events” that you can tackle in any order.

Although we didn’t see them at The Game Awards, Remedy is also working on a remake of Max Payne. The Max Payne 1 and 2 remakes entered “full production” in 2024, and there are rumors of a remaster for Max Payne 3.
