Conan O’Brien? The Simpson’s writer? That’s right, popular ex-talk show host and ginger comedian Conan O’Brien has his heart set on starring in Diablo 5, an ARPG that hasn’t even been announced by Blizzard.

Following the comedian’s performance in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding, the brilliant comedian wants to continue his video game acting career by starring in whatever Blizzard is cooking up next.

Speaking at a recent SXSW Blizzard panel, O’Brien joked that he only joined the discussion to secure himself a gig for the next Diablo game.

Speaking with Blizzard Entertainment president Johanna Faries, the comedian said that he wants to star in the next Diablo release, whether that’s an official Diablo 5 or the next expansion whenever that releases.

“The reason I flew from Los Angeles to be here was I want to be in the next Diablo,” the comedian said. “I would like to be a demon. Or maybe a necromancer… My wife, when she met me, thought I was a necromancer.”

O’Brien explained that he has truly come around on the artistic merit of the video game medium since the early days of his Clueless Gamer series. After seeing how games were made for his role in Death Stranding, the comedian has been “blown away” by the artistry of modern gaming.

“There are thousands and thousands of people behind the scenes that have devoted their lives to this who are artisans, craftsmen… electricians,” he said. “And you see the same thing in gaming too… My son is 19, and he’s been a gamer since he was really small. And I used to worry, [but] it’s not like parking your kid in front of a television. He’s engaged and he’s with his friends, but also some of the games he’s shown me, I’m just blown away by the artistry behind it.”

At the end of the panel, O’Brien was gifted a massive, full-scale World of Warcraft Doomhammer which he described as “a huge waste of resources for you and really for everyone in the gaming community.”

Blizzard hasn’t given up on Diablo 4, although annual expansions are no longer happening. With a revised battle pass system in the works and an overhauled level of difficulty, there’s a tonne of new updates in the works for the ARPG.
