Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has responded to criticism of his latest title, Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, after Konami posted images comparing the current and net-gen versions of the upcoming game.

“I published comparison images of consoles since I get so many questions,” tweeted Kojima. “Once I said the contents & controls can be equally amused by player as we carefully adjusted, people say ‘then next-gen is meaningless’. Well, I want people to play next-gen if they were able to buy, and for those who couldn’t, play current-gen version as it is indeed multi.”

He added: “Next-gen looks better because of its hi-spec, but what I want u to feel is the point the photo-realistic image we pursue in Fox Engine made it even the current-gen look as good as next-gen. Nonsense to compare simply b/w MGS4 & GZ since GZ is open world game though.”

And we’ll soon have a video comparison to add into the mix, with Kojima stating 12 hours ago that he “may publish the comparison video of consoles for GZ tomorrow since it is holiday today in US”.

Earlier this week it was confirmed that Ground Zeroes runs in 720p on Xbox One, but 1080p on PS4. Both render at 60 frames per second.

MGS 5: Ground Zeroes will be released March 21.
