Codemasters has today announced HEI$T, a next-gen action game which will see players taking charge of a group of renegade criminals as they rob, steel and shoot their way throughout San Francisco, circa 1969.

The game is in development at inXile Entertainment, the studio behind 2004’s The Bard’s Tale, and begins in the summer of 1969. Johnny Sutton is fresh out of jail and, together with his Uncle Sal and a reunited crew, is set to pull off dozens of heists that will make him the greatest bank robber of all time.

Johnny and his crew will focus on knocking off banks, but will also be motivated to raid bars, restaurants, strip clubs, armoured cars and more in order to gain the tools to penetrate the more difficult banks.

After each heist players will be challenged to make a quick getaway, speeding their way through the streets of San Francisco with the Fuzz hot on their tail. Expect to be bumped and rammed and to come across police barricades.

We designed HEI$T so that players feel like a part of the best robberies and car chases from classic movies,” states Maxx Kaufman, Creative Director at inXile Entertainment. “Everything from the different types of jobs to pull and the reckless pursuits by the police through the streets of San Francisco, to the sarcastic banter back and forth between the members of the crew, gives HEI$T the action and style of the great attitude and rock-driven films of the 60’s.

HEI$T is scheduled for release in Q4 2007 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
