Treyarch has moved to clear up confusion regarding paid-for in-game content in Call of Duty World at War – there won’t be any DLC available on Day 1 and there will be no in-game content or weapons that you have to buy separately in order to unlock.
Yesterday it was widely reported that Activision was planning to cash in on the popularity of its hit franchise through premium DLC outside of the usual map packs.
“I can confirm there will not be any game DLC available on day 1, contrary to popular rumour,” explained Treyarch community manager JD.
“We do of course intend to support the community with robust and high-quality DLC after release, which we will start working on as soon as we wrap up the game (and some of the guys take a hard-earned break!), and I am looking forward to giving you details on that as soon as I can.”
Regarding the talk of Day One Advantage, the Treyarch post explained that this is simply a marketing term for a promotion in place with retailer GameStop.
“Users who pre-order Call of Duty World at War with Gamestop, or who buy the collector’s edition from them, will get immediate access to a high-level rifle (for pre-orders) or LMG (for collector’s edition) that other players will have to unlock via ranking up in multiplayer,” explained JD.
There’ll also be a bunch of “very cool added content” available to all players that pick up the collector’s edition.
JD concluded: “Any references to Day 1 DLC are simple misunderstandings and hopefully this sets the record straight =). There will be absolutely no in-game content or weapons that you have to buy separately in order to unlock, so let’s get that out of everybody’s head right now.”
Call of Duty World at War is scheduled for release on November 14 for Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation 3, Wii and Nintendo DS.
