Clancy Brown will be returning to the latest SpongeBob game as the beloved Mr Crabs, THQ Nordic revealed the Videogamer.

The veteran actor was missing from the previous game ā€“ SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini BottomĀ ā€“ but returns for The Cosmic Shake, much to fansā€™ delight.

Videogamer.com was treated to a behind closed doors session that showcased the game and some of the levels we can see. There are a total of seven wish worlds, which take our heroes to the Wild West and the Pre-historic period, among others.

Sliding returns, a feature much loved in r Bikini Bottom, and was in full flow during the Pre-historic level.

We were told the story mode will last between 7-8 hours, but considerably longer if youā€™re to acquire all of the costumes.

One of the biggest changes this year is that you only play as SpongeBob ā€“ Patrick will follow you and act as a sidekick. Heā€™ll bring you health bars but when lost also point you the right way.

Visually, the game captured the look and feel of the cartoons perfectly. Itā€™s powered by Unreal 4 ā€“ which held a steady framerate during our gameplay demo.

THQ said that the Nintendo Switch is the lead platform for the game, and while that version doesnā€™t offer anti-aliasing, the developers confirmed the game is visually on par with the other console and PC versions.

The in-game soundtrack features 101 songs from the series, including Sweet Victory

When asked about co-op, THQ explained they were laser guided on making the single-player experience as good as possible. ā€˜We wanted to concentrate on a new SpongeBob game, and weā€™ll see if co-op is something we can approach in the future,ā€ they said.

Thereā€™s no word yet on the official release date but weā€™re hoping for more information soon.
