BBC reports that Church of England officials will send a letter to Sony demanding, amongst other things, an apology for the use of Manchester Cathedral in Sony Computer Entertainment’s PlayStation 3 title Resistance: Fall of Man.

Church officials dispute the fact that Sony gathered the necessary permissions to use Manchester Cathedral in the game and had earlier threatened legal action against the platform holder. Officials will meet today to draft a letter and discuss what other action should be taken.

According to a cathedral spokesperson, the letter will demand Sony apologises for using the cathedral, withdraw the game or modify the game section to remove the cathedral interior, Sony to make a substantial donation from the game’s profits to the cathedral, and Sony to support other groups in Manchester fighting against gun crime.

Sony has issued a response, noting: “Whilst we believe that we have sought and received all permissions necessary for the creation of the game, we will be contacting the Cathedral authorities in order to better understand their concerns in more detail.“

Resistance: Fall of Man was released at the launch of the PlayStation 3 and has been the best selling first-party title in Europe, with more than 600,000 units sold.
