CD Projekt Red has shown new gameplay footage of The Witcher 4, it’s brand-new adventure focusing on the continued adventures of Ciri. After an early look last year, CDPR has officially shown off more of the game running via Unreal Engine 5, and it looks absolutely phenomenal.

Even more surprisingly, CDPR’s The Witcher 4 demo wasn’t running on some fancy PC like we saw with Cyberpunk 2077’s first showcase. We weren’t seeing the game run on some as-of-yet-unconfirmed hardware with extra ray-tracing or advanced GPU tech. It wasn’t even running on a PS5 Pro. Instead, everything was shown on a base PS5, and it looked incredible.

We saw this very same mind-shock happen earlier this year with GTA 6 Trailer 2 which was also shown running on a base PS5. However, while the latest Grand Theft Auto is always impressive, CDPR’s recent showcase somehow looks even better. We may not have the sheer crowd density and almost overwhelming use of ray-traced features, but the new RPG looks like a CG movie.

Somehow, CD Projekt Red’s next major release is running on base PS5 “at 60fps with ray-tracing”. While the standard PlayStation 5 may not have shown off its true grunt throughout its five-year release, CDPR is showing that the hardware was a true generational leap over its predecessor.

Compared to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which was already a gorgeous title, this new game looks even better in every single way. As CDPR moves away from its incredible RED Engine tools for Unreal, the PS5 game has much improved, dense foliage, higher quality character models and much, much more. It looks stunning.

Honestly, I fully expect some minor graphical downgrades from this reveal until release, just like every other CD Projekt Red game. The Witcher 2, Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 all had some degree of downgrade before launch, but they still looked incredible on release.

Alongside The Witcher 5, CD Projekt is also working on Cyberpunk 2, previously known as Project Horizon. While not much is known about the game, we do know that players will be able to explore a new city that’s described as an environment like if Chicago went wrong.
