Following CD Projekt Red’s initial announcement of its next The Witcher game, codenamed Project Polaris, back in October 2022, details regarding the upcoming fantastical RPG have remained scarce. However, the studio recently revealed that “the development team is nearing a major milestone, which will mark the end of the preproduction phase.”
That’s according to a press release from CDPR, which it released as part of its H1 2024 earnings call. “The company is gearing up to begin the full-fledged production phase of Project Polaris,” it added, meaning that more information on the next Witcher game’s setting, plot, and cast of characters could potentially pop up soon. The company later revealed in a separate report that it will be part of “a new trilogy,” though you probably shouldn’t expect any updates on the second and third entries soon.
In addition, CDPR also gave an update on the “new game set in the Cyberpunk universe,” codenamed Project Orion. Although development on the dystopian RPG sequel is still in its earlier stages, Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski shared that “the first half of the year was also a busy period for our Boston studio, which is laying the groundwork for Project Orion.” But with CDPR only launching the Phantom Liberty expansion last year, we expect this next Cyberpunk game to be even farther off than The Witcher’s.
However, these two projects aren’t the only things you can look forward to, as CDPR also revealed its growth strategy for the rest of 2024 and beyond. Their report stated, “In the coming years, the studio intends to develop and publish” Project Sirius, “a game with multiplayer features developed by The Molasses Flood,” and the long-awaited The Witcher Remake, which is being developed together with Fool’s Theory. So, if you’re a fan of either the franchises or the studio, there’s plenty to get excited about, with a handful of new projects coming out.
