CCP CEO Hilmar Petursson has taken responsibility for the recent layoffs that have hit the company.

The developer and publisher of EVE Online announced that it planned to cut its worldwide staff by 20 per cent.

However in an interview with Gamasutra, Petursson explained: “This is a major thing, and it’s something which it is my responsibility to avoid.”

He added that the company is attempting to help place those who have lost their jobs into new roles throughout the industry.

“I’ve personally been contacted by many CEOs in the industry which have offered to help with finding employment for the people who are leaving, and that’s a great thing to see. So we are connecting people with our industry friends, we are helping them with their resumes, we are helping them to make contacts, and things like that.”

CCP recently issued an apology over controversial decisions made in the company that left Eve users feeling “estranged“.
