“After seventeen years I have decided to leave Konami to explore new opportunities,” Cox tweeted. “Today is my final day with the company #endofanera”

“I joined the company in 1997 as a UK product manager and my first title to manage was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night… I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I would be given the opportunity to lead the development of a Castlevania #cvlos

“I never imagined it would become the best selling Castlevania game in the series history either. #cvlos

“I want to thank Konami for the opportunity and all those people who supported me and the team on our journey.”

Cox adds that he has left to do “something I’ve wanted to do for a long time” which he’ll reveal after taking a break from the industry.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 launched in February on Xbox 360 and PS3, but was criticised by fans for failing to live up to the original.
