Carmageddon, the gory vehicular combat romp that created quite the controversy back in its 90s heyday, has been snapped up by publisher THQ Nordic.

Presumably this means that a new game will be developed at some point, although no further details are available at this point. THQ has been hoovering up quite a few IPs lately, however.

Carmageddon was released on the PC way back in 1997, and at the time was highly controversial due to the fact you could run over pedestrians. It gained a cult following, and three new games followed: Carmageddon II, Carmageddon TDR 2000, and Carmageddon: Reincarnation.

Fun fact: The original Carmageddon featured a bunch of Fear Factory songs from their Demanufacture album in instrumental form.
