Capcom has offered some hot new details on the recently revealed Lost Planet 2, and insisted it won’t “just s*** out a sequel”.

Yesterday Capcom officially confirmed the existence of the game following the release of a trailer on Xbox LIVE. It’ll offer a “deep” single-player mode, four-player co-op, and the “most extensive multiplayer campaign seen in a shooter to date”.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Christian Svensson, Capcom vice president, business development and strategic planning, expanded on that announcement, saying Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi, who is producing the Lost Planet sequel, is going to “take it up five notches”.

He said: “I’m a big Lost Planet fan myself, and I’ve seen a fair amount of the game at this point. Takeuchi-san and the team here have had numerous meetings over what went right, what went wrong on Lost Planet 1, how we can make a better game for the second.

“Takeuchi’s approach was, you know what we’re not going to sit back on our laurels and just s*** out a sequel, we’re actually going to take it up five notches. We’re not going to under invest in this, we’re actually going to over invest in this, and we’re going to build it bigger.”

Svensson also revealed fans can expect a Call of Duty 4 influence in the game.

“Takeuchi-san is a huge Call of Duty 4 fan and player, as is much of the team,” he explained. “So I think you’re going to see some influence from that sneaking in.”

However, Svensson moved to reassure fans that the game will also retain much of what made Lost Planet, which sold 2.2 million copies, unique.

He said: “At the same time there are going to be elements that are still distinctly Lost Planet. Some of those elements are things that were not universally accepted by Halo or Gears players, but they are definitely uniquely Lost Planet and I think you’ll see those returning.”

Right now there’s no news on when Lost Planet 2 will be released, but more information is promised in the coming months.
