The appeal of the Wii to the casual and non-gamer has convinced Capcom to alter the difficulty level for the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4. Producer, Masachika Mawata, and Director, Minoru Nakai, told Famitsu that in addition to the previously seen Normal mode, Wii gamers will have the option of Easy and Amateur modes.

These two new modes will make the horrors of endless un-dead hordes easier to cope with, offering gamers an enemy lock-on and a gun laser sight with infinite range.

Knife combat has also been simplified, with the need to aim up or down at the enemy removed. In its place Wii players will simply use the Wii Remote to slash, with more damage inflicted the closer they get to the enemy.

Our concept is ‘easier’,” said Kawata. “The number of hardcore gamers [who own Wii] is relatively small. A lower difficulty can attract Wii gamers but excessive easiness can reduce excitement. Our goal is to make it easier and exciting.

Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is scheduled for release across Europe on July 29.
