Pre-order figures for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City are so strong that publisher Capcom believes the game can defy the current climate.

Many triple-A games released so far this year have struggled to shift expected numbers, but Capcom remains upbeat about Raccoon City’s chances.

“Our pre-order figures have given us a huge amount of confidence that the title will perform well despite the current conditions at UK retail,” UK product manager Karl Reader told MCV.

“Consumers are buying brands they can trust. The Resident Evil brand is synonymous with high production values and quality gaming experiences. We have an extensive DLC plan to further that longevity.

“We know our Resident Evil audience very well; the real challenge is to captivate a wider audience with a new take on team-based action horror. We couldn’t be in a stronger position to achieve just that.”

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will be released March 23 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Meanwhile, Resident Evil 6 – which hits stores November 20 – is already doing the business.

“Pre-orders are very strong too, given that we’ve yet to announce any pre-order offerings or partners,” Reader added.
