Capcom has announced the development of Street Fighter IV for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, confirming previous assumptions that there will be no Wii version.

Street Fighter IV will feature classic 2D Street Fighter action, only now with new characters, next-generation visuals and fluid gameplay. Along with the original cast of Street Fighter II, including Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Guile, a host of new characters will be introduced, such as female super-spy Crimson Viper, lucha libre wrestler El Fuerte and mixed martial artist Abel.

Six-button controls for the game return, with a host of new special moves and features said to be integrated into the input system. Capcom says the special moves are so spectacular that they will go “beyond any Street Fighter fan’s wildest imagination” and will include Focus attacks, Super Combos and the Ultra Combo system.

Capcom still isn’t committing to a release date, although winter 2008 has been rumoured.
