The first details and screenshots of a cancelled Saints Row title have been revealed by Unseen64.

Titled Saints Row: The Cooler, the unannounced spin-off was alleged to have been an Xbox 360 and PS3 fighting game set within the Saints Row universe that let players use Kinect and PlayStation Move to control the game “entirely by motion”.

The game is said to have been in development at Heavy Iron Studios, with work beginning on the title in March 2010.

“It was a brawler game,” said an unnamed former Heavy Iron Studios employee. “Go to a bar, pick a fight, smash a bottle over someone’s head.”

Players could also compete in poker tournaments, order drinks and “get lap dances”.

“Basically, the Cooler was meant to be a Kinect-based fighting game, similar to The Fight: Lights Out (PS3),” added another developer, “but in the Saint’s Row universe with lots of fighting matches in about 8 of the Saint’s Row locales, plus a few new locations we crafted, and a bar ecosystem where the player could order drinks, get lap dances, gamble, etc.”

Work on the project allegedly lasted 6 months before being canned by THQ over “quality concerns”. Some assets from the game, however, are claimed to have been retained for Kinect fighter UFC Personal Trainer.

The Saints Row IP was later purchased by Deep Silver.

As for the future of the series, a next-gen re-release of Saints Row 4 is due to land on PS4 and Xbox One in January 2015, alongside a new standalone expansion.
