Ubisoft has announced the development of Call of Juarez The Cartel, the third game in the first-person shooter series from Techland.

Call of Juarez The Cartel differs from its predecessors, jumping forward to the present-day, but promising to maintain the best elements of the Wild West. The game will see players shooting down enemies in locations from Los Angeles, California to Juarez, Mexico.

“Call of Juarez The Cartel is an action-packed shooter game with a strong story, interesting characters and a wide variety of gameplay options,” said Caroline Stevens, EMEA brand director at Ubisoft. “The game will bring the best elements of the Wild West into modern times with a very gritty and relevant plot.”

Call of Juarez The Cartel is coming to consoles and Windows PC this summer.

The switch from the 19th century to modern-day is a peculiar choice from Ubisoft – the historic setting helped make the previous titles stand out from the crowd – but we’re keen to see what Techland can do with the shift in period.
