Some marketing materials originally leaked the release date, then a tweet right before the big reveal all but confirmed it, but Activision has now made it official during a 30 minute live stream. Call of Duty: WWII will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 3.

Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg opened the publisher’s big live media briefing in London and began by stating that prior to development, they wanted to take the series back to its roots. Like ‘boots on the ground,’ this phrase was repeated many times throughout the half hour show.

Later this year, Activision will be hosting a private multiplayer beta for those who pre-order the game, but no date for the stress test was announced by Hirshberg during the event.

Sledgehammer Games said the story ‘weaves in and out of historic events,’ as the developer has attempted to ‘stay true to the source material.’ Authenticity appears to be key to the studio as they mentioned spending some time on a shooting range with weaponry from the Second World War. Sledgehammer Games Co-Founders Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey said they’ve been working for two and a half years studying the time period, alongside historians.

The campaign will take place between 1944 and 1945, and will include Normandy on D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, some urban combat in France and Belgium, and an eventual push toward Germany. Players will assume the role of Private Ronald ‘Red’ Daniels for the majority of the game.

While specifics weren’t mentioned that much, some multiplayer modes were teased such as War Mode, which will allow face offs in famous battles that occurred during World War II. On top of that, a social space similar to Destiny’s Tower was also mentioned, where players will be able to interact with others in between matches.

There’s also a co-op mode that features a standalone story during the World War II period featuring…zombies.

Call of Duty: WWII will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 3.
