This year’s Call of Duty: Vanguard has received its first teaser trailer, with the footage for 2021’s entry in the shooter series dropped by Activision Blizzard last night.

The mood-setting footage opens on a variety of World War II-era post battle scenes. These include the rubble of a city, a war-torn beach, barbed wire trenches and more. Each of the shots closes on a face in the environment, potentially hinting at a closer look at the stories of the individual soldiers in the fight. The trailer also served to confirm yesterday’s news that the game will be revealed in Call of Duty: Warzone later this week.

As part of the reveal, Call of Duty: Warzone will also be holding a limited time special double XP event. Anyone who logs into the game and plays at 5:30pm UK time on August 19 will get Double XP, Double Weapon XP and Double Battle Pass XP. The reveal event itself will then kick off in-game from 6:30pm.

In case you missed it, the 2021 Call of Duty entry will be lead by Sledgehammer Games. It’ll be the first game in the series led by the studio since 2017’s Call of Duty: WWII, though they’ve also supported Activision Blizzard’s other CoD studios on the interim titles.

We’ll find out what else Call of Duty: Vanguard has up its sleeves on Wednesday evening. Until then, check out the teaser trailer for yourself down below.
