UPDATE: Xbox’s head of global communications, Kari Perez has been reported as confirming that the “binding agreement” between Microsoft and PlayStation is a 10-year commitment. Perez (via The Verge) confirmed that this deal would only involve Call of Duty and not the other Activision Blizzard titles.

ORIGINAL STORY FOLLOWS: After all the recent news surrounding the FTC vs Microsoft trial, Microsoft’s Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer has now confirmed that Microsoft and PlayStation have signed a “binding agreement” that keeps Call of Duty on PlayStation following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

In a statement on Twitter, Spencer said, “We are pleased to announce that Microsoft and PlayStation have signed a binding agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favourite games.”

Microsoft’s Vice-Chair and President, Brad Smith, also wayed in on the statement saying, “From Day One of this acquisition, we’ve been committed to addressing the concerns of regulators, platform and game developers, and consumers. Even after we cross the finish line for this deal’s approval, we will remain focused on ensuring that Call of Duty remains available on more platforms and for more consumers than ever before”.

It could be possible that this deal may be similar to the 10-year agreement we saw between Microsoft and a number of other companies, such as Nintendo, that would see the Call of Duty series appear on a number of other platforms. However, the details of this deal between Microsoft and PlayStation have not been commented on yet by either PlayStation or Microsoft so this is still just speculation at the moment.

This deal comes after months of negotiations between the two gaming juggernauts. As this story develops we’ll continue to provide you with the most up-to-date information surrounding this agreement. Overall, players on both consoles are just happy to see that some headway is now being made after the recent FTC vs Microsoft trial.
