Activision and Infinity Ward have announced one of the first new multiplayer modes coming to this year's entry in the long running shooter series Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, ahead of a full multiplayer reveal next month.
Entitled Gunfight, the mode is for 4 players, 2v2 and is a much smaller-scale close-combat mode. Maps are custom made – of which three have been revealed so far (King, Pine and Stack) – and they're much smaller than normal, with everyone getting the same loadouts. These loadouts change every two rounds, and the first team to six rounds wins.
If neither team can win a round within the 40 second time limit, a flag will spawn somewhere on the map. This flag must then be captured within a further ten seconds, before the decision goes to which team has the most health. There's some further information on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare website.
According to Infinity Ward, the mode was created during testing of weapons, with Infinity Ward's Design Director saying 'When we stripped the game down [to] test each weapon, everyone would check each weapon for balancing, and the game mode was born out of that.'
In addition, the official Call of Duty account also tweeted out the announcement that a full multiplayer reveal is set to take place on the official Call of Duty Twitch channel on August 1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set for release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC on October 25.
