Call of Duty: Ghosts is the bookies favourite to be this year’s UK Christmas no.1, muscling out competition from FIFA 14 and GTA 5.

UK bookmaker William Hill currently offers odds of 6/4 on Infinity Ward’s shooter securing the Christmas top spot, with 2/1 and 4/1 on FIFA 14 and GTA 5 respectively.

“There is no doubting that GTA 5 will sit at the top of the games chart for a couple of weeks (at least until FIFA hits the shelves),” commented William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly, “but will it sustain enough momentum to make it top for Christmas? The odds would suggest it will fall just short.”

GTA 5 launches next Tuesday, September 17, and is expected to break opening week sales records.

Call of Duty: Ghosts, meanwhile, releases much closer to Christmas on November 5, with Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions to follow later that month.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 secured last year’s Christmas no.1 spot, shrugging off a last minute sales boost from Far Cry 3 and nudging ahead of both Hitman Absolution and FIFA 13.
