Launch week UK sales of Call of Duty: Ghosts are down by approximately 50 per cent compared to last year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, retail sources have told MCV.

Chart-Track revealed earlier today that Call of Duty: Ghosts had debuted at No.1 in the chart, but was only the third biggest launch of 2013, behind GTA 5 and FIFA 14.

However, is a 50 per cent drop year-on-year so bad when you consider other cross-generation titles? Battlefield 4 sales are down a staggering 69 per cent over Battlefield 3, while Assassin’s Creed 4 took a 60 per cent hit over Assassin’s Creed 3.

FIFA 14, which launched earlier than the rest and had more space between it and the next-gen, was down just 24 per cent over FIFA 13.

It’s perhaps too early to declare the Call of Duty, Battlefield and Assassins franchises as being in major trouble, but if the games fail to shift considerable copies over the next-gen launches, questions will undoubtedly be asked.
