Xbox 360 and PS3 players who purchase a digital copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be able to upgrade their copy to the PS4 or Xbox One free of charge, Activision has announced.

You’ll also be able to take any digital content with you over to the next-gen version, including the game’s Season Pass and Atlas Gorge pre-order map, along with your multiplayer stats and gear.

To be eligible, you simply need to purchase or redeem a digital PS3 or Xbox 360 copy prior to March 31, 2015.

The PS3/PS4 version also qualifies for Cross-Buy, meaning that if you pick it up on PS4 first you’ll also own a PS3 version. It isn’t clear whether that’s also the case for the Xbox One and Xbox 360 versions, although you will retain both licenses if you purchase on Xbox 360 first.

You can only upgrade within the same console family, too, meaning you can’t upgrade to the PS4 version from the Xbox 360 version, for example.

The promotion gives you little reason to digitally pre-order the next-gen version of the game. The digital PS3 version is currently available for £49.99 on PlayStation Store, £5 cheaper than the PS4 version.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare launches on November 4. Pre-order and you’ll gain access one day earlier on November 3.
