Activision should be set to reveal the newest installment in the never-ending Call of Duty franchise fairly soon. The series is sticking to annual releases, and it’s expected that the new entry will come out in the fall as is traditional of the franchise. While there are no official details from Activision as of writing, leaks suggest the Call of Duty 2024 campaign is poised to be the best ever.

Before the newest Call of Duty gets announced, there is a lot going on in the world of Modern Warfare 3. A new MW3 mode and map have leaked for the upcoming 4/20 event, and this event will allow players to buy a bundle that literally turns enemies into joints. Hopefully, this bundle will be way better received than the useless MW3 Beast Glove that costs double the best multiplayer game of the year so far.

When it came out, Modern Warfare 3 was received with lots of flack from both fans and critics. The game has still sold remarkably well, but lots of people took issue with the short campaign. While the MW3 story mode was heavily criticized, the good news is that the CoD 2024 campaign should be a lot better.

Call of Duty 2024 campaign leaks

Leaks suggest that the Call of Duty 2024 campaign will be the first ever to feature a truly open world. This comes courtesy of prominent leaker, Tom Henderson, in their report for Insider Gaming.

Although Modern Warfare 3 technically features an ‘open-world-esque’ campaign of its own, CoD 2024 will be the first to truly embrace the genre according to reports. The campaign has reportedly been built entirely from fresh meaning it is not reusing assets from previous CoD installments.

As a point of comparison to get a clear picture, the open-world map size has been compared to the Far Cry series from Ubisoft. You will navigate this map with your squad of allies and you will be able to drive vehicles to get around quickly. There will also be fast travel points.

Fortunately, the open-world map shouldn’t come at the expense of the series’ cinematic direction as there will still be linear missions. As for the story, the game reportedly takes place in the Gulf War in the early 90s, and the game is rumored to be titled Black Ops Gulf War.

It will reportedly have a heavy focus on the CIA, and, according to Charlie Intel, Call of Duty 2024 is the first game in the series’ history to have a four-year development cycle. This should mean it’s not a rushed copy-and-paste installment as was accused of Modern Warfare 3 and several other CoD games in the past.

The campaign is developed by Raven Software, and Windows Central reports that it ‘will lean back into more traditional military combat technology and familiar Black Ops gadgetry as opposed to the current and near-future tech we’ve seen from Modern Warfare’.

Windows Central also reports that the campaign ‘will attempt to explore a nuanced narrative of the Gulf War, with a critical focus on different participants within the conflict’. Then ‘It will dovetail into the end of the Cold War era, and explore some of the consequences therein’.

In other Call of Duty 2024 news, the Black Ops Gulf War beta release window may have leaked, and details about its imminent reveal have leaked, too.
