Bungie community director Brian Jarrard has refused to rule out a return to the Halo franchise for the independent studio, but confirmed that Halo: Reach will be its last title in the blockbuster franchise for the foreseeable future.

“You know, it might be premature to say we’ll never ever, ever make a Halo game again. We sort of have a little special place for Halo in our hearts. But for the foreseeable future, this [Halo Reach] is it,” Jarrard told CVG.

So, given that Reach could be Bungie’s final Halo game, has this put even greater pressure on their shoulders?

“There is a degree of pressure there but I also think that inspires our team,” said Jarrard. “If we don’t ever come back to Halo again, we better damn well make sure that our last game is the best one ever. Let’s set that bar really high and at least leave our fans something really special.”

Future instalments in the Halo franchise are now likely to be produced at Microsoft’s in-house 343 Industries.

The Halo: Reach beta will begin on May 3, ahead of its planned autumn retail release.
