*UPDATE*

Destiny community manager Deej has responded to the community feedback following Smith’s interview with Eurogamer, reassuring that dedicated Year One fans will get “something better” than the emotes found in the Collector’s Edition, while saying the team will “revisit” plans for the different Taken King offerings.

Speaking on Reddit, Deej wrote this post:

“I’m catching up on a lot of conversation about The Taken King. Please know that we’re reading this feedback and taking it as seriously – as we always do. Destiny is a great game because we worked together to make it that way over the course of the past year. That partnership has not changed.

“I understand that you want me to go on record right now with something that will address the disappointment that’s being expressed here. I’m going to differ to the Bungie Weekly Update, in which we’ll talk more about the things we’re doing to celebrate the year-one Guardians who helped us build this community. I’ll also revisit our goals in offering different versions of The Taken King.”

Original story follows

Bungie has been in a bit of hot water recently, with the news that The Taken King will cost £40. But there will also be two other versions of the game, a disc-based Legendary Edition, which will retail at £54.99 and include the base-game and all previous DLC, as well as a Collector’s Edition in order to obtain exclusive in-game dance emotes.

In an interview with Eurogamer, The Taken King creative director Luke Smith sought to explain the decisions, while affirming that the developer will continue to listen to fan feedback.

“There is no way right now for you to get the new dance emotes without [purchasing the Collector’s Edition],” he said. “Those are Collector’s Edition exclusive. We’ve set some stuff aside for that edition specifically to really make it appeal to fans who have engaged with the game already and also to people that will enter the game this autumn.”

Smith goes on to admit he empathises with people who would like the option to buy the emotes separately who don’t wish to re-buy DLC again in the Legendary Edition.

“If someone made a golf clap emote, I would spend money on that. Like when someone falls in the Vault of Glass. At the moment I bow when I’m trying to mess with them. So… I empathise with some of the things you’re saying.”

He adds that fan feedback will be taken into consideration. “We have nothing to announce today. We’re reading the forums and the reactions to this week’s announcements. We will continue to discuss player feedback with respect to the the game and Collector’s Edition content.”

The Taken King launches on September 15. Pre-order Destiny: The Taken King on PS4, Xbox One, PS3 or Xbox 360 now.
