Each level will be spread over the two DS screens, and visuals will be improved whilst still maintaining the original’s retro aesthetic. Double Shot also introduces new gameplay mechanics, with players having to switch between characters during play to take out certain colour-coded enemies.

Bub, Bob and Bubu each shoot different coloured bubbles and by tapping a shoulder button, players will instantly switch between the characters. The game also introduces a new star bubble which allows players to change the colour of all the enemies.

Also new is a novel new continue system, which utilises the DS touch screen for a number of game-over mini-games that give the player a chance to jump back into the game once all lives are lost. These games include bubble-based puzzles and monster chase, in which Bub must reach an exit before the monster gets him.

In addition to 100 single-player levels, the game will also feature co-op multiplayer for three players, a first for the Bubble Bobble series.

Bubble Bobble Double Shot is scheduled for release on the Nintendo DS in Q1 2007.
