Revolution Software has announced the imminent App Store release of Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror – Remastered, the sequel to Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars – The Director’s Cut.

Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror – Remastered sees journalist Nico Collard unexpectedly stumbling across a mysterious ancient artefact. Little can she know that the ornately-carved obsidian stone will lead her, and her adventuring companion George Stobbart, into a mysterious escapade of intrigue and deceit, in which they must overcome powerful forces and antagonists who will stop at nothing to fulfil their evil ambitions.

The iOS update boats fully animated facial expressions, enhanced graphics throughout, high quality music, a context sensitive hint system and a diary. The game also features Dropbox integration, enabling seamless, cross-platform game-saves, and full Game Centre integration, offering achievements.

The download will also include an exclusive new interactive digital comic from Watchmen co-creator Dave Gibbons.

“The original Broken Sword went to #1 in the App store, was BAFTA-nominated and received the most fantastic reviews, both from reviewers and the game’s audience on the App store – as well as appealing to fans of the series, the game reached a whole new audience,” said Charles Cecil, managing director, Revolution Software. “I am thrilled to be able to unveil this updated version.”

Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror – Remastered will be released before Christmas for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

We’ve already seen that the App Store is a great home for classic adventure games and we expect the second game in the Broken Sword series to perform very well.

It’s also great to see Revolution putting in the effort to enhance the game, when it must be much simpler to port across the existing game.
