Brink will be released on May 20 in Europe, Bethesda has revealed. The game will arrive in North America on May 17. The release date means Bethesda will just about meet its stated spring 2011 release.

The ambitious shooter that merges the single and multiplayer experience hasn’t had the easiest development, missing a number of proposed release periods. Initially the game was due to hit stores almost a year ago, in spring 2010.

Also out from Bethesda in 2011 is Hunted: The Demon’s Forge on June 3, id Software’s Rage on September 16 and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim on November 11.

Brink will launch on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

While it’s great that Brink finally has a firm release date (providing it doesn’t miss it), we can’t help but think launching the same day as Rockstar’s LA Noire is a mistake. If LA Noire has success similar to last year’s Red Dead Redemption we expect games released in the same window will struggle at retail. Brink will also have to contend with a recently released Duke Nukem Forever and Red Faction Armageddon.

Rage and Elder Scrolls should both be big enough to achieve sales success no matter what competition they face in their launch windows.
