Diablo co-creator David Brevik has spoken out for the first time since Jay Wilson labelled him a ‘loser’ earlier this month, saying that the abusive comments directed at him “were a little surprising”, but that he accepts Wilson’s apology.

“Well they were a little surprising sure,” Brevik told VideoGamer.com while discussing Wilson’s comments, “but we’re all so passionate about what we do”.

Wilson, who directed Diablo III, left a message on Facebook saying “f*** that loser” in response to an interview given by Brevik.

The interview suggested that Diablo III was “a very different game” to the one that Brevik would have developed, and that the team at Blizzard “did a lot of the things the best they could”.

Wilson later deleted the comment and issued an apology.

“I want to make it clear that I am very sorry for what I said,” he stated. “I have higher expectations for myself than to express my feelings in such a rash way and disrespect a fellow developer like Dave, someone who deserves to be treated with greater respect.

“What I said was expressed out of anger, and in defense of my team and the game. People can say what they want about me, but I don’t take lightly when they disparage the commitment and passion of the Diablo III team. Dave is awesome.”

When asked whether he accepted the apology, Brevik replied: “Of course”.
