Nintendo is offering a free downloadable game to anyone who purchases a 3DS XL between now and January 15, 2013.

And the best news is, if you already own a 3DS XL, you’re entitled to a free game too.

Players who register their console with Club Nintendo before January 15, 2013 can choose from one of five digital games for free, including Super Mario 3D Land, Freakyforms Deluxe Your Creations, Alive!, New Art Academy: Learn New Painting Techniques and Share Your Art, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask, and Nintendo presents: New Style Boutique.

Once you’ve registered your 3DS XL, head to the Nintendo eShop between January 1, 2013 and January 31, 2013 to download your free game.

Be aware, though, that the offer is only valid in the UK & Ireland, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal and Russia.

Super Mario 3D Land is our pick of the bunch, being one of the handheld’s standout titles. But if you’ve already picked that up, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask is a worthy alternative.

Nintendo’s latest console, Wii U, goes on sale across the UK this Friday.
