Borderlands 2 continues to prove it’s now a major player in the first-person shooter space by shifting a hugely impressive 1.48 million copies in the US during September, according to data released by the NPD Group.

“Borderlands 2, with its bazillion guns-a-blazing, exceeded the first month’s unit sales of the first game which launched in October 2009 by 234%,” said NPD analyst Anita Frazier (via GameInformer).

However, this wasn’t enough to chart at No.1, with that honour going to Madden NFL 13 which sold over 2.5 million copies – up 11% over Madden 12. FIFA 13 charted at No.3 – sales not released – whilst New Super Mario Bros. 2 came it at No.4 with 295,000 copies.

Guild Wars 2 charted at No.5, NHL 13 at No.6, Mists of Pandaria at No.7, NCAA 13 is at No.8, LEGO Batman 2 clings on at No.9 and Battlefield 3 takes 10th.

Xbox 360 was the highest-selling console for the month with 270,000 units sold, claiming a 49 per cent share of current-generation console sales in the US. Sony and Nintendo haven’t released hardware sales figures.
