Bluetooth headsets will not be compatible with PlayStation 4, Game Informer reports.
Other types of gaming headsets, including USB-powered headsets and Sony-branded PULSE headsets, will be supported by the console “eventually”, but players will allegedly have to wait for a system update to enable functionality.
“Any other headset that relies on bluetooth for chat will not work at all,” the site states.
Headsets relying on a digital optical input will provide game audio at launch, but will not be able to relay chat.
The news will come as a disappointment to fans hoping to continue using their existing headset with PlayStation 4. Earlier this year, Sony was alleged to have told Polygon that PS4 would “support previous generation PlayStation 3 wireless headsets”, suggesting that multiple types of headsets would be compatible with the upcoming console.
It isn’t clear how long gamers will be required to wait for the system update to use the PULSE headset or existing USB headsets.
PlayStation 4 comes supplied with a wired mono headset that connects directly to the DualShock 4 controller via a standard 3.5mm headphone jack.
